The North Idaho College wrestling team will travel to Oregon City, Ore. for the Region 18 Tournament Sunday, Feb. 12 at Clackmas Community College.
Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 12:45 p.m. The tournament will be livestreamed at www.trackwrestling.com.
The Cardinal wrestlers look to capture the Region 18 Title for the first time since 2013 while also punching their tickets to the NJCAA National Championships March 3 and 4 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
NIC Interim Head Wrestling Coach Derrick Booth said he and NIC Interim Assistant Wrestling Coach Cooper Thomas are excited to watch the guys compete this postseason.
“The team has put the work in and built the confidence to go out and win any match we wrestle,” Booth said. “It has been a long year on the road, and we appreciate all the support from fans and the community alike.”
The Cardinals would greatly appreciate if their fans would tune in and follow their journey to the National Championships, Booth said.
Below is the Cardinal lineup for the Region 18 Tournament:
125 – KOBI JOHNSON – Freshman from Loveland High School (Colo.). Three-time state champion with a current record of 25-7.
133 – BRANDON O’BRIEN – Freshman from Linn Mar High School (Iowa). Iowa High School State Champion and Spokane Open Champion with a current record of 7-2.
141 – BRANT PORTER – Sophomore from Kamehameha High School (Hawaii). Two-time national qualifier and returning All-American with a current record of 26-4.
149 – KANA’I TAPIA – Freshman from Kamehameha High School (Hawaii). Hawaii State Champion and Mike Clock and Spokane Open Champion with a current record of 24-4.
157 – BENJAMIN MITCHELL – Sophomore from Mead High School (Wash.) with a current record of 22-7.
165 – LEDGER PETRACEK – Sophomore from Elk Grove High School (Cali.). Two-time national qualifier and returning All-American.
174 – ETHAN MILLER – Sophomore from Post Falls High School (Idaho). Idaho High School State Champion and national qualifier with a current record of 22-12.
184 – TRAVIS WALDNER – Freshman from Dexter High School (Mo.). Three-time state placer with a current record of 8-3.
197 – BRADLEY WHITRIGHT – Freshman from Cheyenne East High School (Wyo.). Two-time state champion with a current record of 21-14
285 – SHAI MURRAY – Freshman from Capital High School (Idaho). Idaho State placer.
