North Idaho College students Rhiannon Hurst and Kaylee Nelson won top spots in multiple categories at the state Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition in Boise during the first week of March.

Hurst, a student in NIC’s Paralegal Program, placed first in the following categories:  Basic Office System & Procedures; Fundamental Word Processing; and Legal Office Procedures.

Nelson, a student in the college’s Administrative Office Management Technology Program, placed first in Integrated Office Applications. Nelson also placed third in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications and fourth in Intermediate Word Processing.

Hurst and Nelson competed with university and college students from across the state in business competitions through BPA, a national organization for high school and college students preparing for careers in business and career technical fields. With 45,000 members in more than 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, BPA is an organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards.

Hurst and Nelson qualified in every event to compete at the national level; however, the 2020 national conference has been canceled.
